Installation & Maintenance

Solar power systems is on the rise!

Growth of many production facilities is hamstrung by the amount of power that can be supplied by the grid, so being able to produce their own power is the key to growth.

Off Grid Solar Energy System

If you want complete energy independence and reduced energy costs then an off-grid solar power system is the answer. An off grid system generates solar power through solar panels and is not connected to the utility grid so it is ideal for remote locations where there is no grid system.

The system includes solar panels and battery banks which store the sun’s energy for cloudy days and at night. The number and size of battery banks is determined by the energy consumption required and can be increased when required. Evest has the expertise to design a solution that will cater to individual needs.

Solar Hybrid Inverter

A solar hybrid system is a combination of grid-tie and off-grid solar solution. It is suitable for homes and businesses that experience unreliable grid supply and want to reduce their dependency on the grid as well as reduce their electricity costs.

We offers a reliable back up power system that has been tested globally and has a proven field performance in many applications and environments. Solar Panels

Solar panels absorb the sunlight as a source of energy to generate electricity or heat.

A photovoltaic (PV) module is a packaged, connect assembly of typically 6×10 photovoltaic solar cells. Photovoltaic modules constitute the photovoltaic array of a photovoltaic system that generates and supplies solar electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions (STC), and typically ranges from 100 to 365 Watts (W). The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 W module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 W module. There are a few commercially available solar modules that exceed efficiency of 22% and reportedly also exceeding 24%.

A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes an array of photovoltaic modules, an inverter, a battery pack for storage, interconnection wiring, and optionally a solar tracking mechanism.

Solar Inverter

A Solar Inverter, or converter or PV inverter, converts the variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic (PV) solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current (AC) that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network.

It is a critical balance of system (BOS)–component in a photovoltaic system, allowing the use of ordinary AC-powered equipment. Solar power inverters have special functions adapted for use with photovoltaic arrays, including maximum power point tracking and anti-islanding protection.

DB (Distribution Board)

A distribution board (also known as panelboard, breaker panel, or electric panel) is a component of an electricity supply system that divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits, while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit in a common enclosure.

Normally, a main switch, and in recent boards, one or more residual-current devices (RCD) or residual current breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBO), are also incorporated.

Solar Energy Meter

An electricity meter, electric meter, electrical meter, or energy meter is a device that measures the amount of electric energy consumed by a residence, a business, or an electrically powered device. Electric utilities use electric meters installed at customers’ premises to measure electric energy delivered to their customers for billing purposes. They are typically calibrated in billing units, the most common one being the kilowatt hour [kWh].

They are usually read once each billing period. When energy savings during certain periods are desired, some meters may measure demand, the maximum use of power in some interval. “Time of day” metering allows electric rates to be changed during a day, to record usage during peak high-cost periods and off-peak, lower-cost, periods. Also, in some areas meters have relays for demand response load shedding during peak load periods.

making the right choices

Solar engineers create solar cells that collect and store the sun’s rays. They work with clients to design, plan and implement solar energy projects for cities, businesses, and homeowners.

Analyzing

A detailed analysis of your electricity consumption over a 12-month period is used to determine the best size solar PV system to suit your needs. Based on this data a financial review is done giving the approx. payback period for the investment under consideration of various financial incentives and subsidies, where applicable.

All these findings are presented to the client for review and consideration.

Battery Bank

A solar charger employs solar energy to supply electricity to devices or charge batteries.

They are generally portable. Solar chargers can charge lead acid or Ni-Cd battery banks up to 48 V and hundreds of ampere-hours (up to 4000 Ah) capacity.

Such type of solar charger setups generally use an intelligent charge controller.

A series of solar cells are installed in a stationary location (ie: rooftops of homes, base-station locations on the ground etc.) and can be connected to a battery bank to store energy for off-peak usage.

They can also be used in addition to mains-supply chargers for energy saving during the daytime.

We do businesses, offices & malls

The consumption of power in an office building during the day time is much greater than that of the night time, which makes them ideally suited to solar power where electricity is generated only during the daytime.

Why should you consider solar alternatives:

Office buildings typically depends on electricity for most of their operations and have little need for heat energy. The consumption of power in an office building during the day time is much greater than that of the night time, which makes them ideally suited to solar power where electricity is generated only during the daytime.

There are different loads in an office building depending on the nature of work done at the particular office; critical loads may be present that need to run continuously.

Advantages of Solar Systems:

Offices and businesses use solar panels and solar thermal panels for a variety of uses including pre-heating ventilation air, water-heating, solar cooling and of course lighting & electricity.

Rooftop solar plants can deliver power during load-shedding, ensuring that critical loads are always running. Solar panels can be installed on different kinds of roofs, including covered parking areas, as long as the structure can bear the weight of the panels.

Solar energy in South Africa:

Most areas in South Africa average more than 2 500 hours of sunshine per year, and average solar-radiation levels range between 4.5 and 6.5kWh/m2 in one day.

The southern African region, and in fact the whole of Africa, has sunshine all year round. The annual 24-hour global solar radiation average is about 220 W/m2 for South Africa, compared with about 150 W/m2 for parts of the USA, and about 100 W/m2 for Europe and the United Kingdom. This makes South Africa's local resource one of the highest in the world.

Hotels & Flats

Evest’s projects typically have a low environmental impact. When in operation, our systems generate electricity with no water use, no air emissions, and no waste production, and have the smallest carbon footprint of any PV technology. Our solars on flats is being designed to sit low to the ground and minimize visual impacts.

The  Flats site are carefully selected after thorough environmental review. The availability of land near existing electrical transmission lines, the amount of sunlight, and current land uses were also important considerations in the siting decision.

Unlike many other industrial and commercial sectors, hotels are unique in that their customers are present 24/7 on the premises. No part of the guest experience may be compromised, leading to heavy diesel consumption for power generation.

Diesel engine exhaust fumes are another area of concern; and many guests, particularly for star-rated hotels, are increasingly seeking green hotels. Rooftop solar power presents several advantages to hotels facing the above issues. Several constraints will, however, also need to be considered when introducing solar power into the energy mix of a hotel.

we do remote locations

The consumption of power in an office building during the day time is much greater than that of the night time, which makes them ideally suited to solar power where electricity is generated only during the daytime.

Solar systems can be installed anywhere:

Solar systems can work separately from the  governments electrical grid and therefore can be installed anywhere.

To connect your far-flung home to the utility grid, power lines must be extended to your location. But you must pay to have that work done, and the farther away your home is, the more it costs.  Installing an off-grid solar system makes better economic sense. It costs much less, and you’ll gain energy independence.

Benefits of a solar system:

Farms and businesses in outlying areas can use photovoltaic panels for electrical power. Isolated buildings can be equipped with a solar panel system to provide heat and pump water. Typically, rooftop systems are most efficient, as their maximum exposure to sunlight allows them to collect more of the sun’s energy.

And when the sun is not shining the backup battery bank will provide power for the entire building.

we will save you money

There is one thing most people in the world have in common, namely a budget.

South Africa is no exception to the rule, especially at this point in time. Too much instability leads to increasing expenses, and for some reason things never seem to get cheaper, even when things are going well.

But strangely enough, there are still some things that defy the odds. Complete solar power kits for homes continue to get more affordable, making right now the best time to install one.

Complete solar power kits for homes work better with your budget.

If you find yourself in a position where you have to decide between individual parts or complete kits, here is some perspective on the matter.

Buying Individual Solar Parts

Let’s start with the good things about buying individual solar parts, such as affordability. One or two panels won’t cost as much as an entire kit, which means you gradually put the solar system together. You can budget every month according to the parts you need until you have everything in place.

Another benefit is that you have more control over which parts will be used. However, this can be a good or bad thing. If you’re the type of person who loves DIY projects or you’re simply into solar technology, you’ll appreciate the custom setup. This is because you’re aware of the technical specifics associated with solar power. For example, is the inverter big enough to take the collective energy from the panels? Or will it literally throw the energy away?

So, buying the parts individually does have benefits, but it really depends on your situation.

Advantages of Solar Systems:

Solar power is a fairly simple process. The panels collect energy from the sun, which is then used inside the home. Nothing too complicated, right?

If you buy one of the several complete solar power kits for homes then yes, this is the image you’ll get. However, it’s not quite as simple. As mentioned earlier, there are other equipment involved, such as the inverter and the battery. You want all the parts to have a good working relationship, because then you maximize what you get out of the system.

So, instead of shopping with the aim to compare inverters with the best batteries, you’ll be comparing kit sizes. Basically, you establish how much renewable energy you are going to need and look for a kit that can deliver. Another good thing about buying a complete solar power kit is that the installation involves everything in one setting, which makes it cheaper.

Kits like these only use equipment that work well together, so you don’t have to stress about making the wrong equipment choices. And seeing as you are buying in bulk, you’ll get a special offer.

The Verdict

Both options are great, but only if they fit into your situation. In other words, if you don’t have the money for the kit, you can start small. Collect a few panels and sort out a decent inverter. Maybe throw in a good battery after another few months.

This options works out well in the short term, but in the long run you’ll be saving more with the complete kit. Either way, you’ll be more independent and in control of your electricity bill.

our systems are Eco-friendly

Solar energy is the cleanest type of energy known to man since it is pollution-free and so helps to reduce carbon emissions.

Apart from being a renewable source of energy, solar energy is maintenance-free since the panels do not need any form of regular maintenance for them to work efficiently.

How Eco-friendly is a solar system exactly:

we will make your life simpler

Complete solar power kits for homes work better with your budget.

If you find yourself in a position where you have to decide between individual parts or complete kits, here is some perspective on the matter.

How can a solar system make your life simpler:

We all know that ESKOM is no longer a trusted supplier of continuous electricity because of the increased load-shedding times. On top of that, they have become ridiculously expensive and  the customer service is anything but reliable or helpful.

Generating electricity from coal and other means of fossil fuels will also be depleted if we do not change our ways of generating electricity.

Going off the grid will give you piece of mind that you will always have a continuous supply of electricity all year round with no interruptions. It will also reduce the costs of generating electricity significantly.

Maintaining the solar system will be kept low because the solar panels do not need regular maintenance to work and generate energy. You will be kept up to date on how much energy will be generated and used.

The powerful battery power bank will also insure that you will have round the clock power at night time and when there is little sunshine around.

Solar energy does not result in harmful carbon emissions that increase global warming or atmospheric pollution. Statistically speaking, 1 kilowatt (KW) of solar energy prevents 136kg of carbon from entering the atmosphere.

It also saves water, research shows that generating electricity using solar panels lets you save almost 90 percent water when compared coal.

Solar energy releases far less toxins than other power production processes that are in use currently. The use of fossil fuels (natural fuels like coal, gas etc.) results in water, air and also land pollution. This impacts not just humans but all living creatures.

Using solar energy has substantial financial benefits such as lower utility bills,  increased home value and many more.
